adidas Soccer united soccer fans by hosting a one-night 2018 FIFA World Cup celebration at The Base in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, June 12.
During the festivities, fans had the chance to customize their own jerseys and watch eight teams battle for a chance at the MVP trophy in the Tango League. Fans were also treated to special guest appearances from LAFC players Latif Blessing and Lee Nguyen with a live performance by American rapper Rich the Kid to finish the night.
“This was an awesome event to really get excited with other soccer fans and just enjoy how great the sport is,” Santa Clarita native Jordan Ramos said. “With soccer being such a global sport, it really is cool to see how powerful it can bring people together.”
Brothers took home the championship after defeating FC YJ in an exhilarating final that went into extra time.
Melvyn Owen Perez Cortez, 18, scored the game-winning goal and took home the MVP trophy, celebrating in style by dancing on stage with Rich the Kid before making an exit from the venue on a motorcycle ride.
Along with capturing the Tango MVP, Perez Cortez will also travel to Moscow, Russia to partake in the global Tango League finals taking place in the final week of the World Cup.
“I’m excited for the opportunity,” Perez Cortez said. “To represent the city of Los Angeles in a global setting and play the sport I love is really a dream come true.”
Perez Cortez will join the yet-to-be-crowned MVP of the New York Tango League representing the United States to compete against other Tango League MVPs from all across the world for a spot in the Tango Squad F.C. managed by 2010 World Cup winner Xabi Alonso.
Fans also had the opportunity to check out items such as the official match ball Telstar 18, the newest state-of-the-art Energy Mode X laceless cleats and the national team jerseys that will take the field during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
